[...] well, what were they called? stuart actually hadn't decided what to call his nascent group. "it was just one of those things that happened, like most auspicious things," says stuart of the final decision to call the group belle and sebastian, a name stolen from the books/cartoon series by french writer cecile aubrey.
"i'd been using the name on demos for the previous six months. radio scotland has already played a few belle and sebastian tracks, they'd played the demo of 'la pastie de la bourgeoisie,' which was a really early demo, and they'd played 'dog on wheels' and 'electronic renaissance.' this was during 1994 on the beat patrol program and they'd said that belle and sebastian were a boy/girl duo who lived on sauchiehall street. at the time, i'd put pictures of joanne on the cover, so it might as well be me and joanne. at the time i said we were brother and sister. when we did the stow thing, one of the kids at stow said to me that we should just call ourselves belle and sebastian. so i thought, 'why not?'"
who this pivotal gent was has been lost to the mists of time, but if he's reading this, it's probably too late to claim some kind of legal ownership of the name, which, in any case, was already owned by madame aubrey, who was less than pleased when she heard about the group.
"when i wrote the story, i just thought it would be fun, because it was as far removed from the black-and-white television program as i could imagine," stuart semi-explains. "that program certainly made an impression on me at a young age." ever conscientious, stuart decided to ask for permission to use the name, to little or no interest from the parties concerned. "i wrote to quite a lot of people i found out they'd made it into a cartoon and that the cartoon was owned by viacom, so i wrote to a man there. it's quite annoying, 'cause you try to do all that stuff, and nobody ever wrote back, and alan and me tried to do it officially, but it wasn't until three years later when arab strap was released in france that madame aubrey bothered, and she wasn't fine with it at all, she didn't want us to use the name, and it was only after we went to paris to meet her that she grudgingly let us carry on. and it was only because she liked us. me and bel and richard met up with her, and at first she was determined not to let us use it, but she grudgingly let us use it in the end. she was really nice, quite a glamorous older lady, there was something quite mrs. robinson about her. the stories had started out as novels, and sebastian was her son, so in a sense she'd written these books about her son, so we could see why she would be sensitive about it."

detence beše zaspalo u toplom ovčijem krznu. anželina ga umota u svoj šal, pa žurno krete u dolinu... obuzimao ju je užas od ledene beline visokih planinskih vrhova, čije su se senke preteći pružale do nje i deteta koje je nosila. osećala je želju da beži. da beži ka toplom ognjištu, u kome je pri polasku zapretala vatru, i da tu skloni taj mali, slabašni život, koji je bilo sačuvalo samo čudo.
-- idi s njima, gijome, -- reče sezar. -- ovde više nema posla za tebe.

i žan je potrčao ka njihovoj kući. odjednom zastade:

anželina diže glavu ka lekaru:
-- sebastijan?
on se osmehnu na nju. ona na to nežno prigrli bezoblični zamotuljak u svome naručju.
-- hajdemo našoj kući, sebastijane... mi ćemo te voleti... zaista ćemo te voleti.
iznad sela se već u ledeni sumrak dizao dim sa ognjišta na kojima se kuvala večera. anželina, gijom i žan su žurno išli ka toj lakoj plavičastoj magli. izgledalo je kao da se ceo svet odjednom nekako podmladio.

ne bih ovde da prenosim ono što pišem, evo već i drugog unosa (!), na blogu beogradskog city magazinea. preporučujem rss feedovanje, ali nije isključeno da ću vas i na ovom mestu povremeno podsećati da skoknete tamo. siguran sam da ćete mi pre oprostiti redundantnost te vrste nego li bezočno zanemarivanje superstudio bloga.

pored mog pokušaja blage subverzije lifestylerskog diskursa, na istom mestu možete pronaći nekoliko mojih omiljenih blogera, pre svih jelenu maksimović i aleksandra maćaševa. ako se ne varam, prvi unos na cmb-u doprinos je aleksandra s. jankovića. topla preporuka.

can you stop hip-hop?

strah od crne planete uvukao se u mehanizme politikinih štamparskih mašina i pokvario nam malu numeričku igru. u uvodniku za nesrećni novi broj časopisa huper, urednica marija babić-milovanović lepo povezuje da taj, 444. po redu, izlazi 4. novembra, na dan kada se u sjedinjenim američkim državama bira 44. predsednik, a njen najmlađi sin puni 4 godine.

kažete -- stvari koje mogu poći naopako poći će naopako? ne brinite, H#444 izlazi već sutra (?).

ako u ovom broju hupera postoji nešto na šta sam ponosan, to je svakako naslovna strana. možda je kadar fotografije mogao biti malo širi, možda je marko gole mogao do kraja isterati svoju zamisao da se upotrebe strob blicevi, možda da je stigao da je okine u sumrak, možda bi graf bolje stajao na metalnoj kapiji koja je bila u opticaju kao jedna od potencijalnih podloga, možda, možda... dobrodošli u svet gde grafički dizajneri ne teže uvek/samo/uopšte estetizaciji. zadovoljan sam, pre svega, konceptualno. a meni i izgleda veoma dobro. yo!

još malo o uništavanju stvari

preuzeta je s bloga ectoplasmosis (koji nije za tankoćutne). prvobitno je autor txta mislio da se radi o proslavi uspeha projekta castle bravo -- detonacije prve upotrebljive (huh) hidrogenske bombe, pogrešno taj događaj smestivši u 1946. godinu. jedan od komenatora ga je ispravio: naime, admiral 'spike' blandy, koga vidimo kako uz pomoć supruge načinje ovu bizarnu poslastičarsku tvorevinu, bio je već mrtav kada se castle bravo zapravo dogodio, 1954. godine. zaključak je da je prikazana sumanuta zabava nakon višestrukih detonacija *običnih* atomskih bombi iz te '46. samo za one koji nisu dovoljno pazili na času održanom početkom avgusta prethodne godine.

... je moto zabave sarah 100, kojom je okončano postojanje izdavačke kuće koja će ostati jedan od sinonima za twee/indie pop, ali i marksističko-minstrelsku borbu za subverziju pop muzike kao robe široke potrošnje -- sarah records. taj je događaj oglašen u nme-u i melody makeru avgusta 1995. godine.

bubanj u uhu


blog eardrums je priredio izvanrednu dvotomnu letnju kompilaciju indie popa.
idite tamo, pokupite svoj besplatni primerak, načnite njihov informativni .pdf vodič organizovan po izvođačima, namestite lice kao da se bavite ozbiljnim istraživanjem i pripremite se na *obilje* divnih iznenađenja. zastupljeni su naširoko provereni (club 8), oni za koje već znamo i duboko im verujemo (northern portrait, i was a king, celestial, ...) i brojni sa kojima nam je ovo prvi susret.

[pažnja, sledi jedna od *onih* floskula]
ako ovog leta nabavljate samo jednu ploču, neka to bude ova. ne samo zato jer je dupla ;)

idite na njihovspejs (a mislio sam da nikada nikoga neću slati na tu stranu). a tamo?
everything with you je pogled kroz malo odškrinut kapak postavljen između nas i stvari koje nas čekaju početkom sledeće godine, kada će se pojaviti prvi album grupe the pains of being pure at heart. nestrpljivi
ste koliko i ja? jesen nam pritiče u pomoć. čekanje nije tek jedinstveni, neprekinuti, linearni download sa jednog statičnog mesta. ono je, sva sreća, fragmentisano, skokovito i čini ga više paralelnih tokova. čitajte mi s usana: novi. the. radio. dept.

p.s. delimično inspirisano holdenovom primedbom od sinoć da je labrador nešto
, khm, utanjio u poslednje vreme. utanjio đavla, kažem ja. dobili smo od njih letnji sampler, novi singl pellea carlberga (pelle and sebastian! o, da!), ep the radio dept. i najave tri nova albuma, od kojih dva najvažnija stižu krajem avgusta i u septembru.
p.p.s. the pains... impuls sam dobio na skatterbrainu.

stare kutije za cipele dole levo ispod police za knjige ponekad sadrže zaboravljene mastere. tejk it from mi. još uvek se sećam trenutka kada sam na svet doneo trihiljadeseosmajsto 'ne seeeeeeeeeeeeeri' izmamljeno ničim drugim do:
kao lubrikant suze patetičarke und nostalgičarke, facijalni grč koji se ni u grčkoj ne naziva osmejkom; insert disk, pres plej...

lejtr on sam shvatio da od babe devojku nemoš napravit, al pristojnu udavaču i nije tako teško. nepunih pola dana retuširanja, fejsliftinga i liposukcije.

elem, ako je kome promaklo, ako je kome promicalo, ako se kome omaklo - onaj što je stao na oštro staklo se poduhvatio provodadžisanja. baba-devojka je opet avejlbl. tejk it from him.

danas me je nazvala jj. neka uđe u zapisnik da nam je to bilo prvi put. i, kao što sam i mogao pretpostaviti, u tom kratkom razgovoru se pokazalo da postoje ljudi koji svoj angažman u brodu shvataju ozbiljno, obavljaju pripreme i dogovaraju se sa svojim dj partnerima o dolazećem nastupu. da vam kažem: to nisu holden caulfield i a@superstudio. sapienti sat.

postiđen stepenom svoje ležernosti, obećao sam da ću odaslati najavu za subotu. izgleda da nisam emitovao bog zna kako uverljive manifestacije entuzijazma, jer mi je jj odmah priskočila upomoć i predložila da se naš iznimni zajednički nastup, pritom pionirski u kontextu tranzicije na liniji sreda-subota, zove

is a fictional character, the protagonist of J.D. Salinger's 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye.

Appearance and personality

Physically, Holden is sixteen years old and is six feet, two-and-a-half inches tall, is gangly, and has a red crew cut with a grey patch in it. This contributes to Holden appearing to be older than his age, yet his mannerisms and behavior contradict that impression. Also, though he considers himself to look older than he is, the way in which he is treated by other characters in the novel suggests otherwise. One of Holden's most striking and quintessential qualities is his powerful revulsion for "phony" human qualities. Qualities such as narcissism, hypocrisy, and superficiality embody Holden's concept of phoniness and Holden is adept at realizing these qualities in other people, whom he nicknames "phonies". This serves to bolster Holden's cynicism and consequently contributes to his mistrust of other people. Interestingly, despite Holden's strong disdain for phony qualities, he exhibits some of the qualities that he abhors, thereby making him a somewhat tragic character. Holden is very much a character of contradiction, he is tall for his age and already has grey hair and yet he himself admits he acts more like a 12 year old than a budding adult. As a result of his depression, Holden continually fails classes.

Born into a life of wealth and privilege, Holden looks down upon the elite world he occupies. He questions the values of his class and society and sometimes appears to oppose conventions merely for the sake of opposition.
